Within this participative lecture, Nabila Irshaid will illustrate her approach to creative resistance. She will show excerpts of her film HOPE BUSINESS which portrays the cultural scene in Ramallah. What does creativity look like when approached from these angles? Which value does creativity have under occupation?
Nabila Irshaid is an artist and filmmaker whose work focuses on political transformation, particularly in relation to women’s rights and solidarity economy. She has participated in numerous international exhibitions and screenings, including at the MIT List Visual Arts Center (Cambridge, USA), Institut du Monde Arabe (Paris, France), ZKM (Karlsruhe, Germany), Museum der Moderne (Salzburg, Austria), and Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin, Germany), among others. She has received several awards for her artistic work. She earned her diploma from the HfBK Hamburg (Germany) in 1999.

[Veranstaltung] Collaborative Drawing and Collage Workshop - TOMORROW 20.5
Hello,
My co-facilitator, M.E. Sparks and I are hosting a collaborative, large-scale drawing and collage workshop next week (Wednesday, 20.5, 18h), and are hoping to fill a few more of the available spots. The workshop is built around responding to projected videos through drawing and collage, with an emphasis on the body, figure-ground relationships, and repetition.
The workshop is free, open to all, and requires no special prior experience. If you know of anyone who might be interested (students, other artists, etc.) please feel free to pass this along—and if you are interested in attending just let me know!

Die Raumfahrt hat das Verständnis der Stellung des Menschen im Kosmos unwiderruflich verändert. Gagarin und Sputnik, Mondlandung und Erdfotografien waren wichtige Themen der Philosophie ihrer Zeit. Heute erlebt der Griff nach Mond und Sternen unter den Vorzeichen von kommerzieller Verwertbarkeit, neuer geo-politischer Rivalitäten und ökologischer Krisen eine Renaissance. In seinem neu-en Essay wirft Jan Völker die Frage auf, ob sich damit der Abschied von einer terrestrischen Vernunft und dem Bild der Erde als unersetzlicher Heimstatt des Menschen ankündigt. Wir diskutieren darüber in einem fachübergreifenden Workshop, zu dem alle herzlich eingeladen sind.

Synopsis:
“My songs aren’t political, they just describe the place I come from.” Aspiring rapper Kareem (Tamer Nafar), the central character in Udi Aloni’s Junction 48, infuses his every action with music: from meeting friends and family dinners to video chats with his girlfriend Manar (Samar Qupty). After a car wreck kills his father and critically injures his mother, music is the thing to which he clings. But as his hip-hop ensemble begins to rise in the ranks of acclaim, we begin to question whether his lyrics can really be divorced from his politics. The title of the film refers to the 1948 Palestine War, the aftermath of which still looms large over successive generations. The film has its share of sudden and senseless violence, deploying the single crack of a pistol to explore the intersection of personal and political tragedy.
MOVIE NIGHTS is a screening series for a transdisciplinary exchange, that was initiated to oppose the persistent silence about the ongoing genocide in Palestine. Starting each time from one film we open the space for conversations about the relations between production of images and their conditions, involving modes of narration, authorship, history, politics and effects on society. We watch fiction, documentaries, movies and television productions focusing on filmmakers with antizionist and liberatory practices.
The movie nights are hosted and organized by the sections Applied Photography, Art and Communication Practices, Klasse für Alle, Philosophy, and Transcultural Studies at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.

Edges of becoming is a collaborative drawing and collage workshop that asks: how can collaborative practices of making work with uncertainty, without trying to resolve it? Through Sara Ahmed's "productive disorientation" and La Marr Jurelle Bruce's "melancholic time" we will work together to emphasize the suspended, sticky states of unfamiliar orientations, alternative temporalities, and unstable figure-ground relations by creating large scale drawings and collages in response to projected videos. We invite anyone interested in collaboration, process-oriented practices, and/or uncertainty to join us by registering via email (above).
