My Tool, My Choice
Algorithmen, Deepfakes und der ständige Slop-Fluss fordern uns heraus. Wir lachen kurz auf. Ekeln uns, freuen uns. In kleinen Grassroots-Schritten bewegen wir uns durch Kunst, die sich ihre Tools wieder zu eigen machen will. Humorvoll und stolpernd agieren wir im Wissen, dass die Bausteine und Werkzeuge der post-industriellen Wolke nicht in unseren Händen liegen. Die Souveränität über demokratische Produktionsmittel und ihre Plattformen sind längst post-national kapitalisiert und militarisiert. Kontrolldiskurse haben sich dort überholt, wo Wahrheiten neu verhandelt werden. Die Verschränkungen des Lebendigen verkrampfen sich in Handlungsanweisungsvorsätzen. Im Grunde ist es weniger die Aufmerksamkeit nach der gesucht wird, sondern eher die existenzielle Suche nach einem gemeinsamen Handlungsspielraum.
Dominik, Lidia, Ryta, Tara, Johanna, Ruben und Marta gestalten eine Ausstellung in Mz* Baltazar‘s Laboratory. Sie zeigt viel Humor, manchmal auch ihre Ohnmacht, schafft analoge Gedankenräume und lädt ein, sich alte Hardware wieder anzueignen. Sie schafft kleine Wahrheiten und lässt noch kleinere Fakes wachsen. Sie baut Kunst, die sich ihrer Bausteine und Materialien wieder bewusst wird. Verhandelt die unermessliche Fülle sich die Souveränität über den gemeinsamen Handlungsspielraum in der post-digitalen Welt wieder zu eigen zu machen.
Algorithms, deepfakes and the constant flow of AI-slop challenge provoke us. We laugh briefly. We are disgusted, we rejoice. In small grassroots steps, we move through art, that wants to reclaim its tools. Humorous and stumbling, we act in the knowledge, that the building blocks and tools of the post-industrial cloud are not in our hands. Sovereignty over democratic means of production and their platforms has long since been post-nationally capitalised and militarised. Discourses of control have become obsolete where truths are re-negotiated. The interconnections of life are cramped by instructions for action. Basically, it's less about seeking attention but more about the existential search for a common scope of action within this post-digital framework.
Dominik, Lidia, Ryta, Tara, Johanna, Ruben and Marta are setting up an exhibition at Mz* Baltazar's Laboratory. It displays a great deal of humour, sometimes also their powerlessness, creates analogue spaces for thoughts, and invites visitors to reclaim old hardware. It creates small truths and allows even smaller fakes to grow. It builds art that becomes aware of its building blocks and materials again. The immeasurable abundance of reclaiming sovereignty over the common scope for action in the post-digital world.

Durch die Ansammlung leitfähiger Materie (Kupfer/Cu) wachsen Körper. Diese sind weder gestaltet noch lebendig. Elektronische Bauteile dienen als Substrat für deren Wachstum. Deren Funktion kollabiert zu Masse, Zeit verdichtet sich zu deren Körpern.
Through the accumulation of conductive material (copper/Cu), bodies emerge, that are neither designed nor alive. Electronic components serve as substrates for their growth. Their function collapses into mass. Time condenses into their bodies.

Was ist mit dem Wetter los? Extreme Hitze, Kälte, Dürre und Überflutungen wechseln sich in Höchstgeschwindigkeit ab – ein unerklärliches Phänomen. Sechs Expert*innen haben es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, mit ihren hochspezialisierten Maschinen, Daten an öffentlichen Orten zu sammeln und die Antwort zu finden.
Expertin Nr. 6 operiert am „Übersetzmesser“ zur Bestimmung invasiv-kommunikativer Mükro-Partikel. Diese können sich durch übermäßigen Ausstoß von CO2, 3 und 4, Reifenabrieb und Mansplaining in der Atemluft festsetzen. Der Übersetzmessernimmt die hochfrequenten Schwingungen dieser Partikel auf und übersetzt sie in hörbare Frequenzen und ein Ablaufdatum. Je lauter und dichter die übersetzten Frequenzen und je näher das Datum, desto fataler die Belastung.

What is wrong with the weather? Extreme heat, cold, drought and flooding take turns at high speed - an inexplicable phenomenon. Six experts set out with their highly specialized machines to collect data in public spaces and find the answer.
Expert no. 6 operates on the Translative Gauge for identification of invasive-communicative Mücro-particles. These are distributed in the air due to excessive emissions of CO2, 3, and 4, tire abrasion and mansplaining. The translative gauge picks up the particles high frequency vibration and translates it into audible frequencies and a date of expiry. The louder and denser these frequencies and the nearer the date, the more fatal the pollution.

In unserer Zeit haben wir die Toleranz für Unannehmlichkeiten verloren. Alles ist an unseren Fingerspitzen: soziale Verbindungen, Güter, Unterhaltung, Informationen.Wir können jederzeit jegliche gewünschte Musik mit so gut wie keinen Einschränkungen hören.
Musik hören hat seinen materiellen Charakter verloren und damit auch den Wert, den wir ihr zuschreiben. Sich Umstände zu machen um etwas zu bekommen, führt dazu, dass wir es mehr schätzen. Zugang zu weniger zu haben, lässt uns auf das fokussieren, was da ist. Auf dem Weg zu einer achtsameren Existenz, werfe ich gerne einen näheren Blick auf die Dinge, die wir als selbstverständlich ansehen. Sei es abwaschen, Wäsche aufhängen, sich anziehen, schreiben, Musik hören. Unannehmlichkeiten zwingen uns dazu, innezuhalten und die Schönheit im Alltäglichen zu sehen. Ich will diese Unannehmlichkeit in mein Leben zurückbringen und ich weiß dass ich damit nicht alleine bin.
CRAVING INCONVENIENCE
(WHY DO IT SIMPLE IF YOU CAN MAKE IT COMPLICATED)
In our times, we've lost tolerance for inconvenience. Everything is at our fingertips: connection, goods, entertainment, information. We can listen to all the music we want at any time with virtually no restrictions.
Listening to music has lost its physicality and with it the perceived value we ascribe to it. Having to go through inconveniences to get something, makes us appreciate it more. Having access to less, makes us focus on what is there.
On a path to a more present existence, I like to take a closer look at the things we take for granted. Be it washing the dishes, taking down laundry, getting dressed, writing, listening to music.
Inconvenience makes me slow down and notice the beauty in the mundane.
I want to bring this inconvenience back into my life and I know I'm not the only one.

Wir alle kennen Tage, an denen wir im Bett liegen, ohne Energie und ohne Motivation, uns zu bewegen. Das hat mich dazu gebracht, meine digitale Entgiftungskur zu beginnen, bei der sich das Fehlen der üblichen Apps zunächst wie Leere und ein Verpassen der Welt anfühlt. Mit der Zeit erwachen die Sinne und offenbaren längst vergessene Farben, Geräusche und Geschmäcker. Dieses Werk spiegelt meine Interpretation des fragilen Prozesses der Veränderung und der stillen Kraft wider, die nötig ist, um Präsenz und Gleichgewicht zurückzugewinnen.

We all know days spending in bed without energy, lacking any motivation to move. This led me to begin my digital detox journey, where at first the absence of usual apps, feels like emptiness and missing out on the world. Over time, the senses awaken, revealing long forgotten colors, sounds and tastes. This piece reflects my interpretation of the fragile process of change and the quiet strength it takes, to reclaim presence and balance.

Im kommenden Sommer findet in Haslach ein internationales Textilsymposium statt, das unter dem Motto TEXTILABFALL NEU DENKEN steht. Zu diesem Thema werden zwei Gruppenausstellungen organisiert, bei denen Arbeiten gezeigt werden, die sich mit textilen Abfallmaterialien in designorientieren oder experimentell-künstlerischen Projekten auseinandersetzen. Es können sowohl Arbeiten aus Restmaterialien aus der Textilindustrie sein (Projekt Symcraft), als auch Arbeiten aus Postconsumer Waste (z.B. Altkleider) oder Material aus Überproduktion.
In den Ausstellungen sollen neben Positionen internationaler Künstler:innen und Designer:innen auch Arbeiten von Studierenden gezeigt werden. Next summer an international textile symposium will take place in Haslach, under the motto "Rethinking Textile Waste." Two group exhibitions will be organized on this theme, showcasing works that explore textile waste materials in design-oriented or experimental-artistic projects. Im kommenden Sommer findet in Haslach ein internationales Textilsymposium statt, das unter dem Motto TEXTILABFALL NEU DENKEN steht. Zu diesem Thema werden zwei Gruppenausstellungen organisiert, bei denen Arbeiten gezeigt werden, die sich mit textilen Abfallmaterialien in designorientieren oder experimentell-künstlerischen Projekten auseinandersetzen. Es können sowohl Arbeiten aus Restmaterialien aus der Textilindustrie sein (Projekt Symcraft), als auch Arbeiten aus Postconsumer Waste (z.B. Altkleider) oder Material aus Überproduktion.
In den Ausstellungen sollen neben Positionen internationaler Künstler:innen und Designer:innen auch Arbeiten von Studierenden gezeigt werden. Alle die Interesse haben dabei zu sein, können sich mit ihrer Arbeit bis 10. Februar 2026 für die Teilnahme bewerben. Nähere Informationen dazu findet ihr im Anhang.

The project Terrestrial Cosmologies is an experimental cooperation between art students from Turkey, Germany, and Austria. Integrating the fields of art education, experimental and eco-social design, film, poetry, and artistic research, the interdisciplinary program. It aims to explore decolonial pedagogical methodologies and artistic/design approaches within the context of a practice-based research within rural infrastructures at the Tigris region in Southeast Turkey.
Terrestrial Cosmologies takes the form of a one-week on-site workshop. During our stay in the town of Batman and the Raman region, student/teachers teams will visit, research and approach urban and rural infrastructures as a collective effort to understand daily life and the ecologies of the rural landscapes. Through a series of workshops we will focus on Tigris phenomenologies, spatial interventions, and learning about Ezidi, Kurdish, and Suryani culture, especially the history of their lands, their nomadic and settled lifestyles, and the migration histories between Germany, Austria, and the Tigris region.
KKP students will engage with site-specific artistic research and art-pedagogical practices that are sensitive to differences within teaching and learning processes. In this context, the students will document their working processes and learn to consider the socio-political conditions in which their artistic/educational processes take place.

Eine herzliche Einladung der Abteilung Textil zu Moa Hallgren-Brekenkamps Research-Talk „Fäden der Vergangenheit – Forschung zu textilen Konstruktionen in historischer Kleidung“!
Wie kam der Mensch zur Hose? Die älteste bekannte Hose ist eine gewebte Maßanfertigung, die vor etwa 3.000 Jahren in Innerasien getragen wurde. Was kann dieses sorgfältig konstruierte Kleidungsstück über Bewegung, Materialwissen und textile Technologien der Vergangenheit erzählen?
In diesem Vortrag gibt die Textildesignerin und Forscherin Moa Hallgren-Brekenkamp Einblicke in das internationale Forschungsprojekt Silk Road Fashion, das den Ursprüngen der Hose nachgeht und die Prinzipien ihrer Konstruktion untersucht. An der Schnittstelle von Praxis und Wissenschaft stellt sie ihre interdisziplinäre Arbeitsweise vor, die auch die Rekonstruktion archäologischer Kleidungsstücke am Webstuhl umfasst.
Moa Hallgren-Brekenkamp forscht am Deutschen Archäologischen Institut und leitet die Weberei an der Fakultät Gestaltung der Universität der Künste Berlin.

[Organisation] FÜGE-Raum – Ausräumen der großen transparenten Boxen bis 29. Januar
Liebe Studierende,
um für die Erstsemestrigen und das Werklabor wieder Platz im Füge-Raum zu schaffen, sollen die großen transparenten Boxen bis zum Ende des Semesters ausgeräumt werden.
Am 29. Januar werden im Füge-Raum alle großen Boxen geleert. Bitte räumt sie bis zu diesem Termin selbstständig aus.
Boxen, die bereits für das Werklabor verwendet werden, bitte unbedingt mit einem Zettel kennzeichnen. Diese werden natürlich nicht geleert.
Der Inhalt von Boxen, die bis dahin nicht ausgeräumt sind, wird am 29. Januar entweder entsorgt oder zur freien Entnahme angeboten.
Solltet ihr es nicht schaffen, eure Box bis dahin auszuräumen, schreibt mir bitte kurz per E-Mail an yola.fahdt[at]uni-ak.ac.at (Betreff: „Füge Räumen“, mit eurem Namen und dem Datum, bis wann ihr die Box freiräumen könnt).

Please feel invited to a performative & participatory tour of the Weltmuseum Wien, which was developed as part of the artistic seminar „Field Research at the Weltmuseum Wien“.
CRACKS RISSE VOIDS performative & partizipative Führung
Ausgehend von der Ausstellung Die Farben der Erde - Moderne Textilkunst in Mexiko untersuchen wir die Schausammlung des Museums: Welche Geschichten werden erzählt und welche werden ausgelassen? Welche sind noch unerhört? Welche können wir hinzufügen?
Wo gibt es Sprünge? Wo gibt es Risse?
Wir blicken in diese Spalten und tauchen ein in die Abgründe der Leerstellen.
Dieses Vermittlungsformat wurde im künstlerischen Seminar Feldforschung im Weltmuseum Wien von Loki Lotta Karim Omran, Anja Strastil, Niklas Wolf und Hui Zhu, Studierenden der Klasse für Kunst und Kommunikative Praxis (Institut für Kunstwissenschaften, Kunstpädagogik und Kunstvermittlung) und des PhD-Programms an der Universität für Angewandte Kunst Wien, entwickelt.
Unter Verwendung künstlerischer Methoden setzt sich das Seminar – Leitung: Univ.-Lekt. Magª.art. Nicole Miltner – kritisch mit ethnologischen Sammlungen im Allgemeinen und der Sammlung des Weltmuseum Wien im Besonderen auseinander.

Starting from the exhibition The Colors of the Earth - Modern Textile Art in Mexico, we examine the museum's permanent exhibition: Which stories are told, and which ones are left out? Which ones are still unheard? Which ones can we add?
Where are the crevices? Where are the cracks?
We take a close look into these gaps and dive into the abyss of the void.
This mediation format was developed in the artistic seminar Field Research at the Weltmuseum Wien by Loki Lotta Karim Omran, Anja Strastil, Niklas Wolf and Hui Zhu, students of the Class for Art and Communication Practices (Institute of Studies in Art and Art Education) and the PhD Programme at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
Using artistic methods, the seminar – led by Univ.-Lekt. Magª.art. Nicole Miltner – critically deals with ethnological collections in general and the Weltmuseum Wien collection in particular.
